New Day, New Me!
Many people make a list of New Year’s resolutions, but by the third week of January, their intentions are in the dust. This is too common a story, and I want to help you get past this mindset. So, keep reading for a few tips to help you finish in first place.
Write It Down and Work It
Write down your goals and brainstorm. Assess your “why”—the real reason you are doing this. To ensure your goal is realistic, make it clear, specific, and measurable using the S.M.A.R.T method. This method lets you map out your plan by simplifying your goals and setting achievable marks based on your metrics. Doing this allows you to figure out exactly what is required of you by working backwards from your perceived end goal.
Give Yourself Grace
Rome was not built in a day, and all great things take time. You most likely did not get to where you are overnight, so you should focus on staying consistent. Try creating smaller tasks that can be completed consistently to see changes influenced by lifestyle modifications. Being consistent with daily actions will allow you to track your progress more frequently and stay motivated by checking them off your list and seeing the changes you set out for yourself.
Reward Yourself
Hard work pays off, and you have earned every milestone you have reached. So, do not forget to give yourself a reasonable treat now and then to keep up your motivation. I have a wishlist of items I want, and I purchase something from the list based on how big the milestone was. For instance, when I did well on a project at work that I had been working on for weeks, I purchased a book I had my eye on, and when I got a promotion, I bought a bottle of perfume to commemorate the moment.
Work Together
Do you know someone who is also trying to crush some goals? It may be beneficial for you to work together and be each other's accountability partners. Staying accountable by yourself can be tough, but when you have someone supportive and motivating on your team, it makes the journey worth it and less lonely. They can provide you with words of encouragement, a listening ear when life gets chaotic, or be there to allow you to body double. Overall, having interactions with another person who knows your intentions can help you stay committed throughout your journey.
